Hyattsville Military Service Memorial

Program Description:

This project transforms a blighted retaining wall of a long-abandoned flood plain pumping station along the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia Stream Valley, into an artistically devised, environmentally-sensitive sculptural memorial commemorating military service.

Phase One (expected completion Fall 2018), will see the memorial realized following community design charrettes, and once complete, will provide a peaceful space for reflection and contemplation.

Phase Two (expected Spring 2019), will allow the public the opportunity to activate the space by purchasing nameplates to honor their loved ones who have served or currently serve.

Located within the Gateway Arts District, the Stream Valley touches each of the Arts District’s four towns, featuring a scenic levee of native shrubs, flowers and trees, as well as a hiker-biker commuter trail bridging Melrose Skate Park, Magruder Park, and the West Hyattsville Metro Station.
