Riverdale Park, Maryland – On behalf of the Town of Riverdale Park, the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (CDC) is pleased to announce the arrival of five new sculptures across Riverdale Park. The Riverdale Park Public Art Initiative executes the Town’s plan to create an engaging, publicly accessible outdoor sculpture art gallery within its many flourishing neighborhoods.
Riverdale Park is a community rich with history and support for the visual and performing arts. As an historic inner-beltway suburb of Washington, DC in Prince George’s County, Riverdale Park, MD is gaining recognition as an emergent development market. Riverdale Park is a member of the Maryland Milestones Anacostia Trail Heritage Area and also serves as an important connector for over 50,000 vehicles daily that travel to the University of Maryland, College Park, Hyattsville, and the Port-Towns via connectors US Route 1, Kenilworth Avenue, and E-West Highway.
2021 marks the sixth program year for the Town’s Public Art Initiative. This year we are introducing 4 new artists to the program:
1. Steven Buduo – “Vasanzio IV”
2. Kirk Sesse – “Luminous Beings Are We”
3. Erwin Timmers – “Glimpse of Possibilities”
4. Elliot Hamilton – “Insect House”
Returning artist work includes:
1. David Prete – “Solar Flare”
The initiative continues to program a rotating, year-round outdoor, town-wide sculpture gallery. In addition, the initiative emphasizes the creation of promotional opportunities for local artists to extend their audience and their boundaries.
The Riverdale Park Public Art Initiative is a collaborative program sponsored and enabled by the Town of Riverdale Park. The Initiative is facilitated and implemented by the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (CDC). The Initiative’s partners extend their thanks to the private property owners donating their land for this effort and for their ongoing support.
