Background: Bursting on the Scene 2022
For more than seventeen years, HCDC has sponsored and commissioned murals, public sculptures, and art-centric community events, including the Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival.
In May 2017, HCDC, produced ‘Bursting on the Scene,’ a community paint event where artists and residents transformed a barren underpass at the West Hyattsville Metro station into the vibrant mural.
This year we are eager to do it again and engage the community to take part in beautifying and generating new public art.
Professional Muralists
Professional muralist Skuda Gold and Iman Abdul-Ali will guide residents to help paint a high-quality mural by combining a grid drawing technique to map out the color by numbers approach to make painting the mural a fun, collaborative experience for the community. During the event visitors will learn about local history and upcoming events.
The event is free, open to the public, and all ages are welcome to paint. Guests are encouraged to bring bottled water, sunscreen, and outdoor chairs to enjoy the paint day event.
