Recycling the Bluebird

Hyattsville CDC is looking for a Gateway Arts District or Prince Georgian artist to redesign one of the “Birds-I-View” Bluebirds. With no irony aforethought; “Recyclabird” (pictured right) is now itself to be recycled for long-term outdoor residence at the West Hyattsville Metro Station.

Recyclabird’s new transit-oriented feathers (or other finishes) must be resistant to failure from all the common outdoor elements (sun, rain, salt spray, wind), and should be able to withstand the tactile curiosity of commuters and passersby without incident. To preavent further artistic or vandalistic revisions, the finished artwork should be covered with an anti-graffiti coating.

Setting off on a fresh start, Recyclabird’s new home will be the pedestrian triangle in front of the West Hyattsville Metro Station. The artist whose submission sketch is selected for the project will earn a $1,500 stipend for implementing the makeover.
