HyCDC Office and Programs – We are open year-round to volunteers. The most essential resource of helping our community grow is a strong base of neighbors and engaged citizens. Consider serving as an consultant, designing an internship, or helping with various activities on a weekly or monthly basis. HyCDC projects can range from helping to plan public art projects (mosaics, murals, children’s activities), filing, tabling at conferences and meetings, cultivating a wayside project, exploring prospective developments plans, or designing a plan all your own. You can choose how long you are available, your project, and what interests you. We are happy to explore working with you.
The Annual Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival – Coordinated by HyCDC, The Annual Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival is looking for volunteers to be ambassadors the day of the festival, to help with festival setup and cleanup, to work at our children’s art table, and to relieve artists at their booths. You can choose how long you are available and what interests you. We couldn’t put this highly anticipated event on each year without the help of our volunteers.
CASA, Prince Georges County – Apply now to be a CASA volunteer! A Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, provides information and recommendations to the court that help in making decisions that are in the best interest of a child. The role of a CASA can be divided into three parts: fact finder, advocate, and monitor. The CASA gathers information about the case by reviewing records, interviewing the child, parents, family members, social workers, school officials, and collecting all other pertinent information. They provide a voice for the child in the courtroom that includes both the child’s wishes and their best interest and submits a report to the court with his or her recommendations. Finally, the CASA ensures that his or her orders are being implemented correctly. The CASA volunteer follows the case until it reaches a swift and appropriate conclusion.
